Legislated Medicals and Assessments

Managing and monitoring the ongoing health and safety of employees is imperative, especially when they are required to perform safety critical roles or work within hazardous environments.

Across Australia, there are a number of statutory/legislative assessments that are mandated by the overarching industry bodies that govern these sectors. These medicals are designed to ensure that the health of employees is monitored and always a priority.

Pre-Employment and Periodic Medicals

At Bodycare, we offer a range of pre-employment and periodic legislated medicals that adhere to the standards outlined by the relevant industry or governing bodies. Our medicals are performed by trained and experienced health professionals ensuring the highest quality and consistency.

Rail Safety Worker Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 Assessments

We facilitate Rail Safety Worker Health assessments to ensure the safety and capability of workers within the rail industry, in accordance with the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers.

Rail safety workers are required to undertake regular health assessments that are in line with their rail safety work risk category ie Cat 1, Cat 2 or Cat 3.

The Rail Safety Health Assessment aims to detect physical and psychological conditions that may impact on the employee’s vigilance and attentiveness when performing their role, thus potentially contributing to a serious incident impacting public safety or the rail network.

Change of Risk Category Assessments

Rail Safety Workers classified in Categories 1, 2 and 3 not only require health assessments as part of the pre-employment process, but also before moving to a position involving tasks of a higher-risk category. The assessments determine a worker’s ability to perform the full range of inherent job demands of the rail safety position that they have applied for.

Commercial Driver Assessments

Commercial vehicle drivers must meet medical criteria to ensure public and personal safety. It is vital that a driver’s health neither compromises their ability to operate a vehicle, nor increases their risk of an accident.

The commercial driver’s medical assessment is in accordance with the Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive Guidelines, published by the National Transport Commission.

Commercial driver’s medical are required every 3 years if under the age of 50 and annually if over the age of 50.
